BIO Chem - Chemistry between us. MCSW Elektrownia, Radom, 2024

"Bio-Chem" is an exhibition that explores biological, chemical, and environmental themes through multiple perspectives. The artists' investigations draw upon the taxonomy of organisms, their forms and structures existing at the boundaries of biological classification, the chemical transformations that generate matter, and the ecosystems in which symbiotic relationships unfold. Bringing together art and science, the exhibition offers artistic interpretations of biochemical processes and the functioning of natural environments.

"Chemistry between us"

Dopamine, oxytocin, adrenaline, serotonin, phenethylamine, methamphetamine, mephedrone, opiates, ecstasy... chemistry from the outside, chemistry from within—sometimes they are the very same substances.

The human body produces norepinephrine, whose molecular structure resembles that of amphetamine. Cortisol is released in response to stress, but also under the influence of nicotine. Antidepressants increase serotonin levels, yet serotonin is also naturally released when we experience pleasure. Dopamine accompanies the state of being in love, while cocaine can produce a similar sense of euphoria.

This is the chemistry that shapes the way we perceive reality—our moods, our sense of what is real, our joy, and our feeling that life has meaning.
